The Daily Tar Heel

Student-run newspaper at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

News Reels

I produced a range of information-driven news videos that combined visual storytelling with audience engagement. I covered events, such as a lecture by author Mary Pope Osborne, and enhanced stories with visual elements. One example was a piece reflecting on a past UNC victory over Duke, where I edited archival game footage and paired it with voiceover from the article. I also created promotional clips for Hark the Pod, the newspaper’s sports podcast, blending audio and video to highlight episodes. Across these projects, my role spanned filming, editing, and audio recording, ensuring each piece was dynamic and accessible to our audience.

Creative Clips

I created lighthearted TikToks and Reels for The Daily Tar Heel’s social media. While these videos leaned into humor and casual creativity, they were always developed with the understanding that we are a professional and reputable newspaper. Some concepts required approval from management, which taught me how to balance playful content with editorial standards. These projects also involved keeping up with current online trends and connecting them to campus culture, ensuring that the videos felt both timely and relevant to our audience.

Spanish Translation

As the Spanish Translation Editor, I translated and revised articles for the print edition celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, covering sports, community events, and university news. Preparing these translations for print gave me valuable experience with the publishing process, since my work is usually published online. This edition also announced that The Daily Tar Heel now offers news in Spanish as a part of an ongoing initiative to make our journalism more accessible, especially at a time when access to reliable information is critical for the Hispanic community.
